Mangrove Planting

On the day of December 5, 2015 the Joji Ilagan International School of Hotel and Tourism Management students went to Barangay Bula. Students gave their heartwarming expression of love for the environment through a Mangrove planting in some protected areas of Purok 6 Bula. Under the striking hot rays of the sun, students showed their concern for the crying mother Earth because of climate change particularly the global warming.
When everybody arrived in the place the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of General Santos gave a welcome address and gave a thanksgiving message to the Joji Ilagan International School of Hotel and Tourism Management of tourism students and faculty in helping them plant the mangrove on the sea shore. The students and faculty gave a pledge to continue what they have started as a steward of nature.
Planting of mangroves can help stabilize the coastline and prevent soil erosion from waves and storms through sedimentation. Mangroves can be a temporary nursery for myriads of little fishes, used as their home and source of food and food store house at the same time.
Despite of the heat and in hot ambiance of the area students soaked their feet on a muddy and dirty soil serves as sacrifice to convey the message of caring the environment through mangrove planting.
“Smile even we were burning”: A positive comment from one of the students. Positive reaction from students made every reader of this article to convey the essence of sacrifices in maintaining the environment clean and green. The heat of the sun is nothing but just to cover the shoreline with the beauty of mangroves as it grows taller and stronger for next months to come.
Overall assessment, the students valued the significance mangrove in the shoreline and able to appreciate the essence of stewardship in our Mother Earth.
